How it works

Timely alerts

WPLO continuously monitors the events its sources publish and sends you each alert with its risk level. The colour tells you how serious it is before you read a single word.

Red alert

Tropical Cyclone ARNAB-26 in the Bay of Bengal

On the forecast track towards the Port of Visakhapatnam (India)

Yellow alert

Magnitude 7.7 earthquake on the Azuero Peninsula (Panama)

About 200 km from the Port of Balboa

Yellow alert

Magnitude 6.3 earthquake in Vanuatu

About 110 km from the Port of Luganville

Examples based on real events.

Three levels

Green

Situation under control

The event has been identified and is under observation, with no impact on your places. No action is required.

Yellow

Risk to consider

An event near one of your places that could affect you, even seriously, or one about which little is known yet. Review your plan and follow how it develops: if it gets worse, WPLO will notify you of it as red.

Red

Critical disruption

An event under way, or one highly likely to directly affect one of your places. Confirm the situation with the relevant authority.

The level combines the severity assigned by the source, the distance from the event to your places and what you tell us about them, such as which are your primary places.

From alert to decision

Continuous monitoring.

Constant observation of the events that matter for trade and supply chains.

Only what concerns you.

You receive alerts for events within the radius of your places, not every alert in the world.

Teams that act in time.

The people in charge receive the alert at the right moment and can act before the event escalates.

What an alert looks like

Today WPLO monitors natural hazards: earthquakes, tropical cyclones, floods, volcanoes, wildfires and droughts. The sources it uses are listed under Data sources and licences in the app, and the list grows with the service. Each alert tells you what happened, near which of your places and why you received it.
