Delete account

You can ask us at any time to delete your WPLO account and the personal data linked to it. This page explains how, and what happens next.

Version 1 · In effect from 16 November 2026

Who can ask

  • Anyone with access to an account, for their own access.
  • Whoever administers the account — the Organisation Admin, or the holder of a personal account — for the whole account.

How to ask

Email support@wplo.org from the address you sign in to WPLO with, with the subject line “Account deletion request”, and tell us:

  • the account's name (your organisation's, or yours if it is a personal account);
  • the email address of the access you want deleted;
  • whether you want to delete only that access or the whole account.

If you can't write from that address, say so in your message and we'll ask you to verify your identity another way. This step is there so that no one can delete your account on your behalf.

What happens next

  1. We acknowledge your request.
  2. We check that it comes from the holder of the access or from whoever administers the account.
  3. We turn off access as soon as we have verified it: from then on, no one can sign in to the account and it stops receiving alerts.
  4. We complete the deletion within 15 calendar days of verifying the request, and in any case within a month of receiving it, and confirm it to you in writing.

Deleting an account ends access to WPLO. An organisation's account is managed by that organisation's Admin.

What we keep

Only what section 6 of our Privacy Notice sets out: what the law requires us to keep, a record showing we handled your request, and what we need to defend a legal claim:

  • the accounting and tax records the law requires, for 5 years;
  • a record of your request and how we handled it, for 5 years;
  • security and delivery records, until their retention period ends, in case we need to defend a legal claim;
  • backups, which are overwritten within 15 days.

None of this is used to contact you again. Data about the events our sources publish is not personal data and is not affected by your request.

If we can't carry out your request, we'll tell you in writing within the same period, with the reason, and remind you that you can complain to Panama's National Authority for Transparency and Access to Information (ANTAI) or to the data protection authority of the country where you live.
